Studying from medical books even with the vivid descriptions, I found that I did not really know how to work on the muscles. I was shown how to adjust joints and bones from my Chiropractic friends. However, I could not convince them that manipulation of the bones of the body must cause muscle or ligament damage. They were just as adamant that it was the only way to treat sore backs, necks, legs, shoulders etc. We were at a stalemate as far as theories went. Not being satisfied that I was wrong, I just had to find out. But how?
I knew that I had to see muscles, tendons, cords, ligaments and nerves under the skin to help me learn anatomy. I decided that I had to dissect animals to learn the information I was seeking. As sheep were easy to come by I started on them.
I started by dissecting a muscle from beginning to end, noting where it started and finished and what held it in place etc. It was a fascinating experience. After many months of experimenting I found what I needed to know to treat muscle injuries.
Going from head to feet, I found that I could recognize the feel of ligaments, tendons, cords, blood vessels and even nerves to a lesser extent. I then learnt to feel and recognize them from the outside (through the skin). what they are and where they belong.
Armed with the knowledge of what occurs with pulled muscles of sheep, and many hours of football training, I was able to start treating other injured animals and people.
I also found that moving ligaments around the injured area would tend to move the muscle closer to the bone, and the tendrils or cords would again adhere to the bone and draw the muscle back to the original position, allowing nature to heal the injury much more quickly.
